To some it feels like the beginning of the end. They roll their eyes, call it absurd and blame the media for cooking up a conspiracy. Others shrug their shoulders with a "tell-me-something-new" grimace and move on. While still others cheer the knives-drawn media and their sting squad for exposing the sleazy world of high-flying priests, popular swamis and other assorted messiahs scaling the staircase to heaven.
Sadly left in a quandary and abyss of confusion are their devoted followers, an ever increasing horde of humanity, all yearning for the tranquil path to Nirvana. The media's hot scrutiny or the gripping accounts of lurid, sordid expose' of women, sex, and the politics of God men have not helped either. As they deal with the shock of their falling pedestals, their world has splintered into uncertain pathways by anguish, denial, and an all-encompassing dilemma- "To believe or not to believe?"
"The answer, my friend," as Bob Dylan croons, "is blowing in the wind." And the winds are blowing everywhere, all across the world, all across the centuries, and echoing the drumbeats of a long forgotten world- an enchanting world when men conversed with the Universe, held mystic secrets in the palm of their hand, and whose timeless wisdom could mirror eternity in an hour. Such men, the sacred Rishis, created the Vedas, Upanishads and the immortal Bhagavad Gita, a civilizational lighthouse, the luster and splendor of which has been a beacon for many a weary traveler seeking the fiery radiance of truth. Most of all it shatters a galaxy of misconceptions such as "ignoring society to run after moksha" that passes for the spiritual currency of today.
From those ancient times of spiritual richness moored in chivalry and honor, sprung men like Drona, Bhishma, and Arjuna whose lives exemplified the mighty themes and supreme ethics of justice, involvement, vigilance, strength, vigor, compassion and wisdom. In no uncertain terms Bhagwan Krishna stressed the fountainhead of divinity- that the Gita is all about the battle for justice and not about the flight to moksha.
