What is happening in Kashmir these days is a wanton display of ugly politics at the altar of interests of the nation.
Whenever Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh visits Kashmir he repeats like a parrot that his government will give zero tolerance to human rights violations in the Valley. But he does never dare to declare that his government will also provide zero tolerance to terrorism. That shows the priorities of the Congress-led UPA government. For it human lives are cheap, human rights dear. There is politics involved in both the stances. The first stance provides the Congress and other so-called self-proclaimed ‘secularists' a bounty of electoral benefits while the other does not.
These utterances of the prime minister and other ‘secular' leaders are only boosting the morale of the anti-national, anti-social and unruly hooligans and bringing down the morale of the security forces fighting the cause of the nation in the valley. The UPA government recognizes the human rights of the brigands to throw stones and hand grenades at the security personnel, but the latter have no human or legal right to self-defence. This only exposes the hypocrisy of the government and all those engaged in protecting human rights.
The situation in the Kashmir valley has drifted to such an extent that the death of every individual is being attributed to ‘atrocities' by security and para-military forces. Every death is being branded a ‘fake encounter' and there is no dearth of the hoard of our intellectuals, human rights organizations and liberals to jump to accept it as gospel of truth.
For more than six months the Valley was under turmoil for the alleged ‘rape' and ‘murder' of two women. When ultimately the CBI investigated the ‘crime' it found the allegations baseless and even post mortem reports manipulated. The so-called Kashmiryat enthusiasts had no qualms of conscience to defame the two poor women to exploit the matter for their political ends.
The tragedy in Kashmir is that some elements inspired, abeted and aided by anti-national elements across the border are fighting against the nation but our governments and political parties do not have the will and the zeal to fight them to realize the interests of the nation by defeating the enemies of the country. They are playing politics to win their own battle of ballot. The day our governments and political parties will cease to play politics and resolve only to protect the interests of the nation, things will definitely change for the better.
